21.Dec.2009-Tue- Today the Chinese are celebrating this Festival with glutinous rice balls, in all sizes and colours from plain white to brightly coloured variants with fillings, will appear on the tables of Chinese families today.
The Winter Solstice Festival is widely celebrated as an event that is more important than the Chinese New Year.While it is observed in a quieter manner among close family members, the festival still emphasises family reunions and ancestor worship.It also reminds the people that Chinese New Year is coming soon.Even before the lunar new year arrives, Chinese believe that one is another year older after enjoying the glutinous rice balls on Dong Zhi
