THE SHAH Alam City Council (MBSA) has ordered the temporary closure of four food premises in the Section 7 commercial area.
The directive was issued during a joint health and cleanliness operation where the four premises were found to have a cleanliness level that was less than satisfactory and had not complied with the council’s rules and standards on food preparation.
During the operation, MBSA enforcers also issued 56 compounds and four notices to the premises owners for various offences.
The joint operation was held to identify the source of cleanliness issues that frequently occur in that area, particularly in terms of cleanliness and food preparation at the restaurants and food stalls. As a result of the monitoring, it was discovered that premises owners showed little concern towards the cleanliness of their outlets and did not obey the council rules. Some were also found to be throwing leftovers into the drains, which clogged and emitted an odour.
There were also several food premises where there was no emphasis on the cleanliness aspects when preparing food. These outlets also did not maintain the kitchens and toilets properly, left raw food ingredients on the floor, had workers who did not undergo health checks, or wear aprons. Some 130 officers from various agencies like the Petaling District Health Department, Alam Flora and Section 7 Commercial Centre Joint Management Body participated in the operation, alongside representatives from the MBSA Urban Services, Building, Licensing and Enforcement Departments.
The operation was headed by MBSA Urban Services Department director Dr Roslan Fadzil. Also present was MBSA councillor Datin Nor’aini Md Top.
